You've seen rock climbing icons in the movies, in YouTube, in TV, in competitions, and you said to yourself: “I Want to be like him/her!” You want to be a better climber, you want to be like the best climbers in the world, you want to establish your name in the rocky world of climbing, then I have two words for you: “You Train!”
There are 4 major training programs that I would want to unselfishly share to you: Indoor Training, Gym Training, Supplementary Training, and Climb.
Indoor Training
Find a wall-climbing gym or an indoor-bouldering gym and train for endurance. Climb as many walls as you can, finish as many routes as you could possibly do, and tho this 3 times a week for starters. While you are training here, learn all the possible holds and try to adapt to each difficulty.
Gym Training
After doing indoor wall-climbing or bouldering, hit the weights area and do some bench presses , triceps work-outs and abdominal trainings! These are the parts that are not so pumped up yet after your climb. Normally, you pump up your back, biceps, and forearms during actual climbs, so work on the other body parts that were less used. Also, it pays to have strong legs, so train them too!
Supplementary Training
These are other sport activities that will help you increase your endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, and agility that you all need in climbing. On days where you are not climbing, try jogging, dancing, stretching, yoga, swimming, frisbee, cycling, hiking, breeze walking, running, playing basketball , volleyball, tennis, table tennis, flag football, and soccer.
Climb
Again, to stress: Climbing is still the best training for climbing itself. Climbing out there exposes you to the actual rock surfaces, rock holds, temperature of the atmosphere, challenge of the natural elements: wind, heat, rain, moist. By exposing your self to more and more variety of rocks and temperature you will gain experience. Experience will develop you to become a better climber.
