PATIENCE

There are two areas of patience that I want to point out when it comes to developing your climbing skills. First, patience in training. You cannot be the world's best climber in one day. Chris Sharma, one of the world's greatest climbers started training when he was 12. David Lama, said to be the next Chris Sharma at 15, started when he was 9. It takes years to be a skillful climber, so have the patience to endure each training day, and as days progresses to weeks, weeks to months, and months to years. I know sometimes there will come a point in time that training will be monotonous already. That's why you also have to train your mind. Climbing is both physical strength and mind power. Brain and brawn. Patience is a virtue. Keep that in mind. Train your mind to remind you that all the time.

Another area is patience during climbing itself. Lyn Hill, probably the world's best female climber emphasizes patience in actual climbing. She said that you as a climber should be patient to know what position you should be doing on your next move, know where to place your feet, and know how to hold the next hand hold. Sometimes, in the absence of patience, especially when you're all pumped up already, your tendency is to rush the climb without even considering your body position and holds. This will be the ultimate cause of your fall. So why rush your fall when patience could potentially let you finish the climb?
